When not composing and arranging for stage and screen,
Scott Mayo continues to perform.
Scott's televised appearances span orchestras for the Oscar®, Grammy®, and Emmy® award ceremonies to presidential inauguration and Motown Christmas specials.
Recent notable appearances include performing woodwinds for the AFI Life Achievement Award presentation to Eddie Murphy in 2026; one of seven musicians backing the Netflix's Night of Too Many Stars hosted by Jon Stewart (2026); and performing woodwinds for the now legendary Jesus Christ Superstar performances at the Hollywood Bowl, starring Cynthia Erivo and Adam Lambert (2025).
Mayo is currently performing with two bands, The Sergio Mendes Band and
Session Syndicate.

Scott Mayo has been musical director for The Sergio Mendes Band for 16 years. The band continues to tour and celebrate the songs and sounds of Grammy-winning and Oscar-nominated songwriter Sergio Mendes, who passed away in 2024.
The band is led by Mendes’s wife and lead singer, Gracinha Leporace. In addition to directing, Mayo sings with the band and also plays sax, flute, and keys.

Session Syndicate
Scott Mayo is a member of Session Syndicate, a seven-piece supergroup composed of the hottest session performers in Los Angeles. The band recently released a single and performs periodically around the L.A. area and on television specials. Promotions say the band “plays the songs from your record collection live from the people who played them first.” Songs represented on the band’s playlist that are a nod to Scott Mayo’s career include hits by Earth, Wind & Fire.
