Farwell to My Meastro

It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of maestro Sergio Mendes. Words are hard to find to express my love for this beautiful spirit. He was a mentor, a musical partner and, best part, a close friend. We talked often and laughed even more. 

My love and deepest condolences go out to Gracinha and the whole Mendes family. 

I’m sad but am also taking time to properly weigh the sizable amount of joy he brought to millions of people around the world and, with a six-decade long career, he left a legacy of music that will bless generations to come. 

Toward the end of 2023, our last tour was a series of sold-out, highly successful shows in London, Paris and Barcelona. The audiences were giving him so much love and adoration that we were all moved upon seeing how moved he was! Several times I found myself tearing up during these shows at the force of the outpouring of love toward him. It felt like a beautiful landing to a long life and career. 

I’m humbled and honored that God chose me to walk in the presence of a true legend of music history.
